Dancing Inspiration

This is similar dancing we want to have in our music video. It is very happy and energetic dancers. This is the type of dancing that fits our genre. We would have just have 3 people dancing about rather than a full crowd. The type of dancing if from the 70's which fits. The colour of the costumes matches the brightness and makes the video pop.

This is the sort of dancing we want to involve

Features of a music video

Audience

I mostly listen to all my music on Spotify or Apple Music through my phone or on my computer. I haven’t bought CD’s in a long time as i can now download it all straight to my phone. Some songs I listen to on YouTube as well.

I wake up to music as my alarm and listen to music all through the day apart from in lessons. I usually listen to music while doing work and it stops any distractions around me. The only time I really share music is if someone is around, like when friends are round we stick on some bangers, they choose a song, I choose a song. Music for me is a break from life and makes me stop thinking about everything that’s going on and just listen to the song .

THE GROUP

This is our group. Joe Kiff (JK) is far left, He is our main actor in the music video 1/3. Nathan Henton is middle left, he will be the camera man of the group shooting all the footage. Oliver Loom (Biscuits) is middle right, he will be another actor in the music video apart of the band 1/3. And I am far right, Harry Hazell (Hazza 4), i will also be an actor in the video and be part of the band 1/3.

Chosen song

This is our final chosen song Pressure, Tensnake feat Thabo. We finally decided on this song due to the feedback from the class that we gathered. Also we thought that the genre was different to any other music video chosen before. Also the up beat and happiness to the song put a different spin on other conventional idea. We also heard the rest of the year choices and this didn't sound like any other. When we kept listening to the song over and over again many idea flowed through our heads and where said to the group which we all liked. We had the most different and abstract idea throughout fro this song therefore we decided to go ahead and chose this.

Here are the lyrics for the song.

Sitting at work on a Monday morning
Spreadsheet files and coffee pouring
Office work can be so boring
But then there's the pressure, I'm under pressure
Hot as fire cold as snow
Deadlines come and deadlines go
But I wanna break free and lose control
But then there's the pressure, I'm under pressure
There's a revolution in my head
Give me a pallet, I'ma paint this town red
Oh baby baby, I'ma stand my ground
Demand will never ever get me down
Rain down with your optimism
Where I go is my decision
You and me, let's start collision
And release the pressure, I'm under pressure
Hot as fire cold as snow
Time has passed and I've lost my soul
This life can get so rock and roll, rock and roll
And it doesn't get better, it doesn't get better
There's a revolution in my head
Give me a pallet, I'ma paint this town red
Oh baby baby, I'ma stand my ground
Demand will never ever get me down
I'm under pressure, pressure
I'm under pressure
And it doesn't get better, get better
And it doesn't get better
And release, and release, and release the pressure

Website Research

Our chosen song is very happy and up beat so we need our website to portray and happy and fun vibe by being interactive and colourful. The cover of the song on YouTube sets the colourful view that we imagine. This is the cover for the song Pressure- Tensnake. Our chosen song. This will mean all our media platforms will be colourful creating a image or synergy throughout.

This is an artist website. The singer is called MNEK. The website is very bright and colourful throughout. This is the website we want to base it around so it is nice and colourful and attracts a big audience. Also it fits well with our song chosen. The genre of the song fits with the colours and MNEKs genre also fits his bright colour persona. Furthermore the interaction throughout the website is smooth. You can click one the tabs you want and then it gives you all the information you require. However the blue colour stays the same theme throughout. whereas I think our website should be different colours throughout or many colours on each page. I also like the pattern at the top and bottom of the page. The links to other social platforms are put in the corner which can redirect you too his Facebook or twitter etc. Which helps if you want to follow and keep up with the artist more.

This is Rayleigh Ritchie's website. I really lie, how the links are photos and highlight up when you hover over them. This is a different way of getting page to page rather than the conventional words. It sets the scene of the page and gives you the information on each page still. Furthermore it makes the page look a lot better I believe. Each picture has small paragraph come up when hovered over. Which gives information bout each page. There isn't just his music on the website there are things about his life.
This is J.COLE's website. This has a lot of synergy involved and the colours are brighter on one side than the other. The quality of the photo makes the screen really pop. The synergy involved is the picture of the website is the same as the album cover. Also the text used is the same on the front cover for the name. J.COLE is always wrote in the font on the website therefore everyone will recognise each time they see the name. The information is showed in a clever way. The social media platforms are in the corner like the other websites. The info pops up in-between the left link bar and the picture of j.cole as shown in this photo which I think is a new and abstract way of redirecting people to what they want to see.

This is Coldplay's official website. The overall colours isn't very bright but the writing is colourful and makes the titles pop. We may swap the brightness of the background and the writing so the writing is a plainer colour and will still stand out on a plain background.

Lip Sync Battle

From this we gathered that we were all pretty good at lip syncing. None of us shone away from the camera and were happy to perform in our music video. Also we didn't quite know all the lyrics to the song at this stage so we was going to get better. We all made up little dance moves during this video.

Group Choices

Prelim Evaluation

1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?
I worked with Harry, Ella and Harrison. We all decided that it would be more efficient if we split the work between ourselves instead of all working on the same task. We all contributed and helped with the filming and preparation of the prelim task.  Harrison and myself were given the task of editing the final piece and uploading it, whereas Ella and Harry predominately completed blog work and documents, such as shooting schedules.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
We decided that pre-planning our sequence would be the best way to do it, and so we created a shooting schedule so we knew exactly what to shoot and on what days. A storyboard so we knew exactly what we needed to film and the shots we were going to use along with the timings and framing of the scenes. We also created a prop and location list, this allowed us to gather the exact props we needed and access the correct locations to ensure our prelim task was a close match to the original music video.

3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
You could apply a few of Andrew Goodwin's theories to this music video we created. The first is that the visuals of the video match the music and lyrics. The song gives off a party vibe, and the video is set in a club. Also there is lots of genre related iconography in the sense of the drinking and drug taking. Lastly there are many close up shots of the main character of the narrative so you know who the narrative is about.

4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
We decided that we would record our prelim task on an iPhone 6, which, at first, we thought would be a good idea, however when we uploaded our footage to premier the quality was poor, which made it very hard for Harrison and myself to create a thermal overlay like in the original video. Additionally it was the first time Harrison and I had used Adobe After Effects and so we were very slow at editing and along with the poor quality videos we had, we found it very hard to apply a thermal overlay. However we learned from this that trying to do something so time consuming in such a short time isn't practical and that the next time we use Adobe After Effects we need to learn how to use certain tools and not just use trial and error. We also learnt that filming on a iPhone was not a good idea, and we should stick to using either media cameras or a DSLR for the best quality footage.

5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
We needed to ensure that all equipment we wanted was easy to get and wasn't too expensive to buy. We also needed to make sure all the locations we wanted to visit were close, easy to get to, and available to use when we wanted them, this meant we needed to book certain rooms in the school, so we could use them to shoot our video with no interruptions. Lastly only one computer in the media department has Adobe After Effects, therefore we had to ensure we booked this computer when we wanted to edit our video so that we had access to the correct and appropriate editing tools and effects to recreate the music video.

6) How successful was your music video copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?
Some parts were very successful and other parts were not so successful. The shots we filmed were a very close match to the original music video and looked good. However when it came to the editing and applying the thermal overlay it got very difficult. And so the video didn't resemble the original very well because the overlay was too difficult to do in such a short period of time. Therefore we must consider how long we have to edit when we take on another project, and ensure we do not try anything too difficult or time consuming. I feel that I need to improve my use of Adobe After Effects before trying anything complex like that again. We had both positive and negative feedback, lots of people said the shots were very close to the original but the editing and After Effects is what let us down.

7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video, do you think?
I have learnt that I need to be aware of the time I have to edit my projects and that taking on such a big task in a short period of time doesn't work. I feel I have learnt a lot about using editing software, especially Adobe After Effects. However I now know that I need improve my skills on After Effects to ensure I get the final product I am looking for, and not just a video I would 'have to put up with' due to the short timescale I had to complete the project.

8) How does it compare with filming an opening to a film?
There seems to be many similarities, yet many differences. For example, film openings tend to have titles straight away, whereas in a music video it gets straight into the video.
However the openings of both are very important in setting the narrative of the video, and therefore both explore the narrative in depth in the opening.

9) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a group member?
I feel my strengths in this project were the editing and organising where everyone needed to be and what they needed to do when we were filming, I focused predominately on the editing and therefore in my next project I will be even stronger at the editing and I will be able to create a much better final product for my group and myself. My weakness in this project was doing paperwork and blog work, because I was assigned to do the editing and it was a very big task to do I didn't have any time to complete the relevant paperwork and blog work, therefore I fell behind and had to catch up after school. Although it was a weakness I feel I have learned that in my next project I need to keep up with blog work as it is just as important as editing or filming.

10) Looking at the other group's videos which do you think were most successful and why?
I feel the most successful video was the One Direction video - History by Joe, Nathan, Olly and Rory. I believe it was successful as they had some good shots that matched the original music video, but the group also had a very good chemistry and seemed to work well as a boy band group. They all seemed to fit the roles they were given and therefore they worked as a boy band.

Music Video choice

This is my first song choice. It is Tensnake feat Thabo- pressure. I thought this tune is very different to anything else. The thoughts I have is a lot of people dancing about. Also the video to be very colourful. The locations would be many different places including nice scenery. Also we could listen to the lyrics more and get some octagons from this. The song sounds quite old fashioned and could be set in the past. The main character could stand out in different clothes compared to everyone else.

This is chase and status - pressure. I like this song as it is jumpy and will suit one of us well. However tis one could get a bit boring half way through due to it being repetitive.

This is my final choice. The song is really different. I think some weird editing could be done throughout the video and the narrative could be played with well.

Banana Phone

This is my editing for banana phone. We were given a number of special effect to attempt on a piece of paper. That included different activities and shots. For the first shot we had to make it look like a really small object looked the same size as a person further away. I added in the blur of the person on the left side as I thought this looked different then had a transition that made the screen go to normal. After this I finally did a dissolve so the blur gradually entered the screen only this time on the right side of the small character. The second shot was a tracking shot which we filmed on a wheel chair. this was more about the timing of the lip syncing and the camera work so I only added in a black and white effect. After this we had to shot someone walking backwards over many of obstacles and then reverse the clip so it looks like they are walking forward. The lip syncing didn't go with the song as it was in reverse but I think it look very different. Furthermore we had to film and person within another camera screen. The head and shoulder had to look like they fitted together but still looked like it was on a different screen. This was simply editing the song to get it in time with the lyrics then leave the video how it was. I thought this looked very good. Second from last we had to shot a person in 3 different places then clone them so it looked like they were on one screen. This was a thing I and never done before but I thought looked good in the end. The lighting changed a bit therefore it didn't match up the best. Also I think the camera moved so the shots didn't match the best but it doesn't look that obvious. Finally we had to produce a stop motion story line with mini action figures. This was pretty simple once the pictures were loaded onto the computer. All i had to do is get them in the correct order and then decide how long each shot would be so it flowed nicely. I decided to choose a different soundtrack and i thought banana phone didn't go.

The shots that the video must include was:
- Filming a person sitting down with the monitor window open and with another camera film the monitor.
- Cloning editing task
- Depth of field task
- Reverse shot
- Wheelchair/tripod
- Lego stop motion
- Split screen

- Make someone colour and the background black and white
